Reasons to stay home from work...
Apr. 20th, 2006 05:08 pmGot up this morning after not sleeping well and my head was spinning, so I called into work and said I'd be in later. Went back to bed.
aikidragon headed out to work around 7:30. I got up at 9:30 planning to spend a little time working around the house, then get to work around noon. Well, I'd not been up 5 minutes when I get a phone call from aiki. He'd been in an accident and had no cell signal where the accident took place. I got dressed and went to pick him up.
He'd gotten off of I-40 at exit 33 and had just crossed the bridge over the interstate when someone decided they had enough time to cross the road. Aiki slammed on his brakes and swerved to miss them, but didn't quite make it. The other guy was cited as at fault for the accident. Aiki's currently without a vehicle as his front drivers side hit the other guys front passenger side which swiped all the way down Aiki's car to the drivers side door. Busted the entire front quarter-panel, bent the frame, busted part of the door, a small corner of the front windshield and a corner of the drivers side window. It left the drivers side door overlapping the back door by at least 3", busted the front drivers side tire (which was only about a month old), not sure if it did anything to the transmission.
I got to the garage where the car had been towed around 10-10:15. We cleaned out his car, left a key with the mechanic and after another call to his mother who was handling all the insurance stuff, I took him to urgent care. It was almost noon when we got to see a doc and after 1:00 when we left. They gave him a clean bill of health, but sent us out with a sheet of things to keep an eye out for for the next 24 hrs. Since we were close to Wal-mart, we pit-stopped there to pick up a few things we needed then headed home for some lunch as neither of us had eaten yet today. I stayed home to keep an eye on Aiki and make sure he's okay. As disoriented as he was, I didn't trust him to judge his own health that well.
After eating, he went to take a nap and just got up a little while ago. Says he's feeling a lot better. We're currently waiting to hear back from Aiki's mom to find out what, if any, arrangements have been made to get him something to drive. Another friend who was t-boned almost 6 months ago has borrowed the van. Call me impatient, but I'd like to know something about the car situation soon since we both have plans for the weekend and those plans require both of us having vehicles.
I'm just glad Aiki is okay. The doc at the urgent care gave him an excuse to get him out of work today and tomorrow, so we don't have to worry about making arrangements for that. Oh, and add to that I still haven't received my cell phone from my brother who was supposed to be mailing it back to me this week. And still no word on the job situation.
Well, off to see about some work here at the house and some supper in a bit.
