Adventures in Home Ownership...
Mar. 31st, 2008 07:22 pmGot up yesterday with plans for things to get done. Started off by putting laundry in to wash and pulled some clothing out of the dryer. While the first load finished I ran some dish water and walked through the house gathering dishes. Put the first load of clothes in the dryer and started a second load. Washed dishes and finished just as the dryer finished up. When I went to check the clothes, I found water all in my utility room floor. There's a pipe that leads from the washer to the well in my floor where the water main is located. There's a drain in the bottom of the well where water leaves the house. As I discovered yesterday, this well will hold about 20 gallons of water.
Turns out the drain had become clogged, completely. I had to pull as much of the water out as possible to find the drain before pouring Drano Gel into it. Half an hour later, still no drainage. Dad came over poured something called "liquid fire" into it, but still no joy. Dad went back out to Home Depot and came back with a chemical for etching concrete and several hours later the water was finally moving. I went to bed about midnight and there was still a couple of inches of water in the well. This morning that was gone and I put 6 gallons of hot water through the well and it took each 3 gallon fill-up about 5-8 minutes to drain out.
For the past several days I've been craving chocolate. Saturday night I planned on making brownies, had the recipe book set out and everything, just needed to get the dishes washed. Between discovering the drain problem and my dad's arrival, I got the brownies into the oven. Used Splenda instead of sugar. Think I should have used a little more Splenda as the brownies just don't taste sweet enough to me.
Needless to say, other things I'd planned for yesterday didn't get done. Things like doing one more load of laundry...
Started a class in Network + this morning. Thought I was running behind at lunch, but turns out I'm actually ahead of the program. Some of this is rehashing things I already knew, some covers things I've had before, but haven't dealt with in years and some is new stuff. There're video lectures that are supposed to be going over what's covered on the exam. The book is almost 3" thick. I tried to follow along in the book with the lectures, but the two don't necessarily go together. The lecture covers things that aren't in the book and the book covers things that aren't in the lecture. This one is going to take a lot of study, glad I've got two weeks to keep going back over things before taking the test.
