Well, got the van loaded. Seems I'm going to have to make another trip to get the last of it. Still have a bunch of fabric, tent and a few crates worth of stuff plus my PC and the prints I have hanging on the walls. I shouldn't need most of what's left immediately. Going to bring the van over later this month to help shdwkitten and emrys_nc move into their new home and will probably take time that Sunday to pack up the rest of my stuff if we finish with their move Saturday or early Sunday.
Today was not the best of days. Was in a bad mood and didn't really want to be around people at all, but aikidragon's parents insisted on being down here to replace the floor in a bathroom. His mom wanted to help out, but was more in the way than really helpful. She took advantage of part of the time to go through some of aiki's stuff and get rid of a bunch of clothes. We got into it in the morning when she almost broke my dresser, then worked out our differences during the afternoon. Personally, I'd have rather she not have been here at all as I'd have gotten more done. As it was, I'd not slept the best in the world and I've been brain addled all day, having trouble thinking straight.
Will grab a few things that are still in here before leaving out in the morning. Starting the new job at 5:00 pm tomorrow. Did some figuring last night and this morning and this job will not allow me to afford an apartment by myself while I'm still making payments on my van. So, I'm still looking for work, hoping to find something that will pay better. Kinda put out with Manpower right now. Despite the fact that they've had jobs come through their system that paid better money and I'd be perfect for, they've left my resume out of the running for those jobs because they felt they needed me in this Data Entry Clerk position more. Never mind what their employees would rather have...sigh... The job search will continue until I either find a better paying job, can buy the game store and make enough there to afford a place or can find a roommate for an apartment that I won't want to kill within the first month :)
Talked to Adkins tonight about the game store. I've had him reading the specialty retailers handbook that I got at Dragon Con since he said he'd help me out with the business if I bought it. He talked a bit about the lease and said there were some things in the book that he wished he'd known when he had his store in Ohio. Had talked with my friends Wayne and Corwin over the weekend on changes I'd like to make in the business if I bought it and they seemed to think that I was headed in the right direction with my ideas.
The thought of buying the store is scary to me, but at the same time feels very natural. I grew up in retail. When my mom was 8 yrs. old, my grandparents opened a dime store and dress shop that was very successful for a small town store. I grew up in that store doing inventory, learning to watch for shoplifters, wrapping christmas presents for customers and pricing the merchandise. My grandmother sold the building and the business to my mom's sister, June, quite a while back. Due to medical problems, June sold the business to her son, but kept the building. Her son and his wife mismanaged it and finally closed the business. I hate seeing that store close because it feels like it is a part of the family, but I can't do anything about it. June and her husband are cleaning it out, getting rid of the fixtures, manniquens (I got several of these) and furniture (I'm getting some of these pieces as well). They're ripping up rotted floorboards and replacing them and will eventually rent the space for some other business.
Well, guess I need to get off of here. Going to go take a shower and see if I can actually sleep tonight.
