Someone from the Southeastern Browncoats posted a link to a chat with a guy from USA Today who was discussing in a mostly favorable way the movie Serenity. Being the curious person I am, I went looking for the movies section of the online version of the paper and read the article their female reviewer posted about it. She started in on it in the article title itself calling Serenity "sci-fi silliness".

She goes on to complain about the movie in various ways. I have disagree with her on almost every point, but then, I'm a fan and I know the background of the characters, as far as it was given in the show.

Yeah, people who haven't seen the series will likely not get some of the lines or understand some of the relationships, but from what I've heard the people who haven't seen the show still like it. Sorry, I have a problem with critics who bust on excellent films simply because they can't appreciate it. I've seen so many good movies get tromped on by critics simply because they didn't understand the story, didn't know the background on which the story was based, or because it's not an art film or a big dramatic yarn going for Oscars like Forrest Gump. Just kinda yanks my chain and makes me want to sound off a bit.

Maybe it's just me, but I think any publication that is going to post reviews of things that are subject to personal opinion should have more than one reviewer and have both contribute to any movie reviews. Either that, or forget having one single person who does the reviews. Rather, let the subscribers submit reviews of the films, books, dvds and such that are released and print more than one persons view on each topic. Just my two cents worth...
