Got home last night and it wasn't miserably cold, so I pulled out my lawnmower. I've got one of those old reel mowers, the kind that doesn't have a motor on it. Got started okay, but it looks like, with the number of small branches that have fallen in my yard, I might should've used a motorized mower for the first run. I got home about 5:15, was mowing by 5:30 and didn't stop until 7:00. Didn't get as far as I'd wanted to due to the small sticks/branches and various other odd-bits in the yard that kept blocking the reel. Took me a bit to figure out what was going on with it. Once I figured it out, I was okay, just annoyed with having to stop every couple of minutes to turn the reel back and let whatever small stick was stuck in it to fall out again. Got most of the yard on either side of the house mowed, or should I say "mulched". The steep slope is covered in vines and mostly dead leaves. The mower mulched up the leaves pretty well. Also, was worried about the Holly tree that was beside the carport, but noticed that there are a couple of Mimosa trees growing up under the dying Holly. Think I'll let the Mimosa's grow and, perhaps, get another Holly for the back yard, maybe the front as well. Will have to wait and see on that.
After about half-an-hour of mowing, noticed that, even without a motorized mower, the tell-tale bubble blister that I seem to get every time I use a push mower had come back and popped. This morning, after getting to work, the bruising on my palms also made itself known. Not too bad, but annoying. It's a bit cooler today, so may save the rest of the mowing until later this week.
Also, looking at making a trip to Asheville this weekend. Will either come over Friday evening or Saturday morning. When I mentioned it to Adkins and asked if he wanted to come along, he said he was attending the SASS meet this Sat. Later, he made rumblings about us going over later in the afternoon. Problem? The peeps I need to meet up with will have to meet with me in the morning if we come over Sat. because they have other plans for the afternoon. Hence, the possibility of Friday evening. I'd get off work around 5:00 making arrival time in Asheville 7:00. Could meet up at Sword and the Grail and maybe catch a late dinner. If anyone is interested in meeting up, let me know when would be the best time.
aikidragon, I would like to get the rest of my stuff from your place as well, or have you bring it with you if you meet up with me in Asheville.
Will post more definite plans once I've nailed down the weekend thing with Adkins.
