STORY LINE 2008:

The Golden Age of Pirates covers the time period around the end of the seventeenth century and the beginning of the eighteenth - from about 1690 to around1730.

During the “Golden Age,” pirates roamed the Caribbean and other areas including the eastern seaboard of America and the west coast of Africa. These were high shipping areas and ships laden with riches from Africa and South America often traveled these routes. However, the pirates didn't only raid ships for treasures, they would steal food, water, alcohol, clothing, weapons - in fact anything they needed to live on, including the ships themselves.

Something had to be done. The English King sent a former privateer to the Bahamas to serve as governor. He brought with him the King’s offer of amnesty.

That is where our story begins. The Royal Governor of the Bahamas, Woodes Rogers has just arrived in Nassau and has decreed that any pirate who turns himself or herself in, will be pardoned. Here in a part of the island known as “Rogersville” (in honor of the new governor), a festival has been declared and pirates from the four corners of the world have arrived to decide if amnesty is right for them and to take part in the festivities, for the governor has supplied, food, drink, and entertainment.
