Possibly changing careers...
Feb. 14th, 2008 03:01 pmAs most of you know, I make custom costumes and have been wanting to take my Renaissance clothing line to an all-childrens historically accurate line. Well, every time I finally get time to work on it, someone comes to me with a new adult commission and it's usually something I haven't done before. I've no formal training in costuming or fashion design at all. Bravo's Project Runway has become a favorite show because I do like the design work. I recorded last nights new episode because I was watching something else at the time it was on, then watched in at midnight.
When the show was over, I went to bed and while contemplating some designs of my own got to thinking about last nights challenge: Using a piece of artwork as inspiration for a new design. I like this idea and could probably work well with it. A lot of the challenges they've had have inspired me and last nights in particular, especially with my love of period clothing and Chris, Jillian and Christians updates to historical fashions.
I'm now contemplating the idea of going back to school after a degree in fashion design. The first thing I did this morning when I got up was turn on my computer and start looking for schools who have on-line degrees in fashion design. I've already contacted the school that looks most promising for information and they actually called me back and spoke with me for about 40 minutes this morning. Looks like I could take one or two full semesters worth of undergraduate courses, then pop up to the Masters degree program where I'd have more luck getting government grants and scholarships instead of taking out loans. The guy I talked with made it sound very promising. Going to look into it a bit further and see what I can do.
What thinks the peanut gallery?
