Well, I guess it's about time I go ahead and let the rest of the world know this since the news is slowly trickling out.  Also, so that people don't see us at con and wonder what's going on.

[profile] aikidragon and I have gone back to just being friends.  This happened back in June and we're both more comfortable with it that way.  Also, as some of you may have guessed at this point, the frequent trips I've been making to OR over the past couple of months have been my going to put in job applications.  A while back, I went over to visit with some friends and they took me around showing me all the new construction going on there and I felt like I'd come home.  I have a strong base of friends there whom I miss and it will be nice to see them again on a regular basis.  I will miss my friends in the Asheville area, but this is a move I feel I need to make.  So many of my friends here have drifted apart and the ones I'm still close to have moved out of Asheville or I don't get to see them very often since aiki and I live half-an-hour from the nearest of them.

I will be coming over every so often to visit in the Asheville area.  Many wonderful friends have been made here and I do not wish to lose touch with any of you, so expect to see me every once in a while.  Not going to commit to any time frames at the moment, as I'm currently still here and still looking for a job.  I do have an interview this Thursday for a job in Oak Ridge.  The current plan is to get a job lined up, move back to my parents place just long enough to save the money for an apartment of my own and then move into OR or somewhere just outside of it.  I'll be looking for a two bedroom so that I can have some storage space and use the extra room as a work room for my sewing and painting (something I've missed doing here for various reasons).  I'll have a futon sofa that I'll be getting from one of my cousins and will be expecting some of you guys to come over and visit with me as well once I get moved in and settled down.  Just give me a call to let me know when you're coming :)

Until then, here's hoping the job interview goes well Thursday, especially since it'll pay $20 an hour :D

Well, Geo from FL dropped on us, Dan (the guy who started the room reservation) dropped on us, and now the guy from Baltimore has dropped on us.  We're now down to 5 in our rooms, so I called the Holiday Inn to see if we could change the reservation to a single room with two double beds instead of two rooms each with a queen bed and a twin size sleeper sofa.  We couldn't get the con rate for the rooms, but we're getting them for $159 for 3 nights and $129 for two nights.  It's still coming out cheaper than the host hotels which is good since we're all on budgets.  The lady I talked to did attach a note to the reservation that if the con rate became available for our room that we should get that.  I'm not expecting it to happen, but at least we've got a room :)

Okay, the job interview I'm going for on Thursday will need me to be somewhat familiar with Unix.  The job is actually for help desk support and it'll be supporting Unix as well as Windows.  I've had very limited exposure to this OS so I picked up a copy of  "Unix for Dummies" and am reading through that as a basic primer.  Anyone got any suggestions for a follow-up book to this?

I'm also contemplating going for Cisco Certifications as well.  Anyone have suggestions on books to use to prep for these tests?
