We left Friday in the late afternoon for Rogersville, TN. We'd already been told that the madrigal dinner that they usually serve on Fridays was cancelled due to a lack of reservations. I'm beginning to think that the "Powers-that-be" were trying to tell us that it shouldn't happen because, once again, there was rain that evening. There was still setup to do before the faire could open on Saturday and Debbie had scheduled a dinner for those who would be showing up to work on Friday evening. We helped set up a couple of things when we got there at 6:00. Dinner was served around 8:00 and was delicious. [livejournal.com profile] aikidragon and I got to meet some new people and catch up a bit with some old friends before heading over to Bruce's to spend the night.

Saturday, we were later than I wanted to be getting there, but we were there just before the faire opened. This was okay as we weren't working as vendors. Aiki spent most of the day hanging out with Steve, owner of The Drunken Celt shop. We also chatted with Justin, the teenager who does historical tanning and does an amazing job! I picked out several things I'd liked, but wasn't really planning on getting much. We didn't buy anything other than food that day and attendence to the faire was comparable to last years. The weather was beautiful and the day went wonderfully.

Sunday, we were late to the faire. Since my first storytelling slot was at 11:00, we were okay. Come 11:00, there were very few people other than cast and vendors in the park, and no one near the storytelling stage, so we skipped that one. As a matter of fact, I don't think we've ever actually had anyone there for storytelling at the Sunday 11:00 am show. Patrons were starting to come in pretty well around 12:30, 1:00 when the sky opened up and a torrent of rain accompanied the thunder and lightening. Half an hour later the rain was gone and people started coming in again. The rest of the afternoon was beautiful and storytelling went well. The dragon egg hunt went pretty quick on Saturday, but Sunday one of the eggs took over an hour to find and I had to go join the hunt and then point kids in the right direction so they could find it. The rest of the day went great, until 6:00 when the Faire was closing up and everyone was ready to pack up and go home. Once again, we were hit with a torrential thunderstorm that lasted over an hour. We helped Steve and Sherry pack up The Drunken Celt booth and we all finally headed home around 10:00.

Other nice bits, talked to Dana who is a vendor from Hendersonville, NC. She's got my info and will be adding me to an e-mail group. According to her, the Mountain Renaissance Adventure Faire may be back next year. There is a group that is working diligently to bring it back and we may be getting to help them out. Add to that, Amanda, one of the ladies who helps run the Rogersville faire, has commissioned me to make new costumes for her two sons. And, to top it off, I actually got paid for working this faire as an entertainer, which is a first and very encouraging. All-in-all, a very nice weekend, despite the rain :)
