Weird Moods

Not a lot to say lately. Although I may not show it in person, I've been feeling very detached of late. Then again, I've felt that way for most of my life. Never quite feel like I fit in anywhere. The geeks are probably the closest I've felt to actually being part of a close knit group of friends. But for the past week or two the feeling of being distant and not a part of things has crept back in a bit. Not sure why. Could just be that I need some sleep and/or some time away from everything. Working a regular job 40 hrs. a week, one of those days being during the weekend, taking classes for 2-3 hrs. a night three nights a week and gaming every weekend on the day that I'm not working is wearing thin. I've not got the energy when I am home to do everything that needs to get done.

I want ... some time away from everything, a bigger house to live in, a yard full of beagle pups, a huge room for sewing (big enough for in industrial fabric press, a 4'x8' work/cutting table and good desk/table for my sewing machine with another table for the serger). I want to go outside and spend some time in the sunlight, not couped up in a room whose sole window gives only a view of a cubicle farm. I want to swim in a pool full of warm water, explore a castle, walk a trail, play in a waterfall, to roll around in the yard and play with the beagle pups. Going hunting or fishing with my Dad would not be amiss either. I want a break where I'm not sick or completely exhausted, where I can do what I want without someone else making up my itinerary for me. I want out of here (work).

And who knows, I may get my wish. Guess I'll find out April 1st if I still have a job or not.  The contract between ATS and Eaton is under great scrutiny right now.  For those of you who don't know, I work for a company called ATS who provides outsourced manufacturing machine maintenance and IT support for other companies.  I work at the Eaton Electrical plant in Arden, NC.  I've been here since March '04 and since that time, my co-worker (Mike) and I have been trying to get this place to run the way it's supposed be run, that is, according to the rules that were already in place when we got here but were, at that time, being completely ignored.  Turns out that when Eaton was running their own IT department, they had 11 people in it including programmers.  When ATS took over, the programmers were moved out and ATS put in 4 people.  Not sure who's screwy idea it was to get rid of two of those positions, but they are currently expecting 2 people to take care of network and server administration, new PC rollouts, hardware and software breakfix for over 400 PC's, laptops and workstations and numerous other little projects.  It's way too much for just two people and Mike is killing himself to try to do it.  Now that it's becoming blatantly obvious that at least one more person needs to be brought in, the whole contract is under discussion and it's very possible that Eaton will not renew it's contract with ATS.  Mike told me that at least one of  the people in the Eaton IT department has asked him if he'd be willing to stay on with Eaton if the contract with ATS is dropped, but no one has approached me with this question.

Aiki and I have talked about it, and it would be tight financially for a bit, but if the contract is dropped and I'm not offered a position with Eaton, it's entirely possible that I may pursue my costuming as a business again.  This time specializing in children's historical clothing and see what happens.   I would finally get some time to put my Dragon Con '05 pics up on my website, redesign my current business site and maybe put some things up on eBay during the off season.  I'd still do some custom work for adults, but my focus would be on as historically accurate as I can get it children's clothing for the medeaival and renaissance time periods.  I've already got a lot of fabric that has been bought for this purpose, but haven't had the time or energy to do anything with it.

Right now, it's all up in the air.  Both ATS and Eaton are keeping us out of the loop on the contract negotiations.  It's not like we should care about it, right?  It's not like it concerns our financial well being...(dripping sarcasm).

Well guess I should go get some work done.
